As part of our 50th Anniversary Celebrations, Mrs McKeown wanted a mural on the school site. It was to be placed on the side of the boiler house. Last year, Miss Allen asked a few talented artists to design the mural.
This week, they were invited back to use special paints to create the mural. It will be placed on the wall shortly!

We had a gift for all of the parents. We made a French painting (inspired by Claude Monet) and a bookmark. We also gave the parents a taste of France - a crepe (pancake) and cakes with home-made french flags.
All of them enjoyed our gift and the assembly went really well.
After the success of the assembly, we all said goodbye to parents and they congratulated us!

The Year 2 performed their fabulous Year 2 French assembly last Thursday. It was super and all the parents enjoyed it.
The children were fantastic and remembered all their lines. The audience heard every word! Miss Allen thought it was so wonderful the children all received a prize afterwards! Even Mrs McKeown said she had learned new things about France! Well Done for all your hard work Year 2!

Parents, let us know if you are interested in joining our Action Team!
You might be able to give us some tips on how to become more Eco Friendly. We already have a gardening club run by parents and staff. We have a rag bag bin so all your old clothes can go to be recycled. We are an amazing Bike-it! school and we can only get better!

The amazing Summer 2009 Musical is now available to buy on DVD for a bargain price of £5!! If you would like to purchase a copy, ask Mrs Redhead at Reception or Miss Allen in the Y2 classroom.

The Year 5 and 6 children put in loads of time and energy to make this a fantastic musical. Many people said it was 'better than going to the theatre'! Our children can match the talent of those on the stages of London! I can't wait for this year's musical...
Please make a comment on the website to say what you enjoyed about Oliver!

Froggets are part of our FROG Factor. Frog stands for:
F = Feelings
R = Relationships
O = Ownership
G = Giving
We think about these important things every day in school.
Each day we can earn 8 Frogget points, if we work really hard. We can also get froggets for brilliant behaviour and good manners. At the end of the week we convert our points into Froggets. It's just like money! We have been saving them up over the last few weeks and now we have been able to spend what we have saved.
There was so much to choose from!!! Many of us chose bouncy balls, pencils and even cars. The more Froggets you have, the more you can buy.
Remember if we are absent from school, we lose 8 Frogget points for each day, so it's really important to have good attendance.
We are looking forward to our next visit to the Frogget Shop. What will we buy...?

Sheila and Katie came to see us today. They are from Miss Allen's church (Living Waters Church).
As part of Interfaith Week, Sheila and Katie came to talk to us about their faith. They visited all our classrooms and led a whole school assembly. Sheila made a banana appear from nowhere in a magic trick. She wanted us to eat dog food! Don't worry parents...it was only chopped up mars bars and jelly with a different label on. She told us that we should never judge people by their outward appearance!
We heard the story of Frd with the wobbly legs (the paralysed man story in the Bible) and asked Sheila questions about what she believed. What a fab day! She wants to come and visit again!

This week, we are learning about Judaism. Michael Glickman, a Jewish man who lives in Gateshead came to visit our school. He spoke to Year 2 about the Torah.
We didn't know anything about the Torah at the beginning of the lesson. The Torah is the first 5 books of the bible. We found out that the books of the Torah is written on scrolls and they are kept in a cupboard in the synagogue. They can't be touched at all. People use a 'yad' to point to the words. This week we are going to find out loads of information about Judaism!

When the books arrive, there will be a few which can still be purchased at the cost of £5.99. They are worth every penny!!!

We've had an amazing visit from a BMX stunt team. They came to demonstrate their skills in front of a crowd of children, parents and staff as part of the school's prize for coming second in the country in the Bike It 'Around the World' project.

Children from year 3 have been busy making dustcaps for their bikes.
James from Bike-It, the project linked to our school to make bike riding safer, showed the children how to make them using clay.
This is one of many activities in the Bike-It project.

Miss Allen says "I'm tickled pink!"
In Year 2 we are trying something new linked with assessment for learning. Miss Allen highlights our work with pink if she is tickled pink with our work. If she sees something that we can improve, she highlights it in green. This means 'grow green' and we try to improve on these bits of our work. Look at the picture. Miss Allen marked our Halloween stories about 'The Three Little Witches' using 'TICKLED PINK' and 'GROW GREEN'.

This week at Roman Road we have had the privilege of working with Michelle from Krafty Kids, designing and making some fantastic plates.
We started by designing some plates with help from our parents and family. On Wednesday Michelle arrived with all the plates, pens, aprons and much more. We were then shown how to use the pens to draw our designs onto our plates. The final results were fantastic!
We collected our plates on Thursday evening and took them home to cook in the oven. This sets the paint and varnish on the plates. That night, many of us had our tea from a personalised, individual plate. And to top it all off we learnt fantastic new skills and had great fun.
Photos to come soon.
