The school is coming up to it's 50th birthday. As part of the celebrations, we are looking for past pupils to tell us about their favourite memories of the school. The easiest way to do this, is to add a comment to this article.
We are looking for responses from ex-pupils including those that have just left and those that have been left for some time !!! We would especially welcome any comments from ex members of staff.
Keep a watch on the site for the comments and also about future events to celebrate Roman Road at 50 !!

One of my favourite memories of my time at Roman Road Primary school was world book day when staff and children dressed up as their favourite book character. I was Pocahontas; Miss Buzzard was Little Red Riding Hood. Mrs McKeown was Mary Poppins. Can anyone remember anymore staff costumes? Kindest regards and miss everyone lots! Mrs Strangwood xxx

I have two favourite memories. My first favourite memory is when the whole school went to the beach. It was a brilliant day and everyone had lots of fun!!! My second is when we adopted the red kite. It felt good to know that as a school we had adopted it, not just one person!!!

Happy 50th Birthday Roman Road. It has been 28 years since I was a pupil at Roman Road which makes me sound ancient! I have many happy memories of my time there but one that stands out is when I won the fancy dress competition when we celebrated the silver jubilee. My brother made me a humpty dumpty costume (without any eyes I might add) out of wire and paper mache. It was painted red, white and blue to keep in with the theme of silver jubilee. It was a proud day for my brother when I won, even if I couldnt see where I was going! I also like to brag that my favourite teacher, Mr Almond, is now an accomplished author! He wrote Skellig which has also been on TV. He was a great teacher who brought the best out of all his pupils. I hope some of the past teachers make the over 18's reunion!

I left Roman Road in 1982 but with so many happy memories to hold on to. I remember my very first day at Infants School where Miss Heaton showed me where to hang my coat up. There was a sticker of a black cat above my peg. I remember aged 7 dancing into the hall to Boney M's "By Rivers Of Babylon" when Miss Barrow's class performed their assembly in front of the whole school. Will never forget beating St. Augustine's team at netball under Mrs. Page's expert coaching. Finally, I'll never forget Mr. Almond (now the accomplished author, David Almond) encouraging me to be a writer whenever he read one of my ( probably terrible.....!) stories. Oh happy days.....

I was one of the original pupils at Roman Road when it opened in 1959. My fondest memory of the school was playing for the school football team. We had brand new strips and I can still smell the cotton fabric now. Happy days.....and happy 50th birthday to Roman Road.

I left Roman Road about 1983-84. I have loads of great memories, playing for the school football team and our teacher Mrs Tatters talking us for walks on a Saturday to Chopwell Woods. Also Dukes House Wood in Hexham.
Happy 50th Birthday
