Space Topic - Salt dough Rockets
During Summer Team Year 2 are going to be continuting their Space Quest. We've already done a lot of Art and Design tasks to do with SPACE and we;ve learned loads of new skills. We've made 3D shape rockets, moulded salt dough into Space shapes, collaged rockets, made 2D shape robots and symmetrical shape rockets. Now it's time to learn facts and figures about Space!
This term we'll be writing recounts, reports and diaries in Literacy. We might even write letters to N.A.S.A!
In Maths, there is a lot to do... four operations work, weight, time and capacity.
In Geography and History We'll be finding out about Neil Armstrong and his trip to the moon.
In Science, we're going to learn all about forces and electricity, then move onto a topic about materials.
We'll be making 'Space music' in our Music lessons and listening more to 'The Planet Suite' by Gustav Holst.
In P.E. we're folk dancing and learning some team games.
In R.E. we are hopefully going on a trip to our local chuch and Durham Cathedral, then we'll be learning about the Jewish Torah, why Moses is so important to Jews and about the festivals of Purim and Sukkot.
In PSHE we will be discussing Relationships and Changes.
Later on in Summer Term, Year 2 will be making moving vehicles and winding mechanisms.
In ICT we are going to practise our word processing skills as well as learning how to use Control Technology.
It's busy busy busy in Year 2! We're going to have loads of fun and learn lots of new facts and skills.

I love it! The children are learning so much this year. The salt dough rockets look great. I could learn a lot from the lessons on the festivals of Purim and Sukkot so may well join in or ask Ellen to teach me!
