Welcome to the Summer Term in Year 3!

I hope you have all had a lovely break. It’s hard to believe that the final term is upon us already! This is always a busy time with lots of exciting and fun events and this year is no exception. Please read on to find out what Year 3 will be learning this term.

Literacy we will be continuing work using ‘RWI’. We will also be writing instructions, recounts, reports and letters in Literacy.

Every Friday in numeracy will be doing problem solving focusing on logic problems and finding all possibilities, this will help develop the children’s ideas and methods to solve practical problems.

Science will focus on magnets and springs so that the children begin to understand attract and repel, upward and downward forces.

P.E – Every Tuesday afternoon until the end of the summer term Year 3 will be going to the swimming baths for their first swimming lessons with the school. I am really looking forward to this. Also on a Wednesday afternoon a football coach will be coming into school to work with the class on their control skills. Could you please make sure the children have their P.E kit in school every Wednesday and Thursday and swimming kit every Tuesday?

In R.E the children will be learning more about The Person of Jesus. They will look at how Jesus is represented through art in different periods and places. They will also look at Saints focusing on St. Paul and St. Cuthbert.

Art / Design Technology we will be making sandwiches.

In PSHE we will be discussing Relationships and Changes.

History we will be starting work on Anglo Saxons. Hopefully we will go on a visit to Bede’s world where the children will have the opportunity to dress in habits and discover where the Anglo-Saxon monastic buildings were and look at the chancel's exterior features.

In Geography we will be investigating our local area.

Music the children will be exploring musical arrangements.

Homework will continue to be given out on Friday and should be returned on Wednesday.
A big thanks to you for the continuing support in ensuring homework is returned.

If you have any concerns or queries, please don’t hesitate to come and see me after school Miss Stubbs.
