How fantastic are our Mothers Day Presents! Wondering if we really made them all by ourself? Check out how we did it.
We knew we wanted to make our frames a square shape. We know that squares have four sides the same length. So we decide a good size would be 14cm. Next we had to measure 14cm on our piece of wood, four times for each length.
We then clamped our piece of wood in the vice and very carefully began sawing the wood, making sure our fingers were well out of the way. Mrs Inkster was very worried she would be sending someone home with 9 fingers, but we were extremely careful and followed the instructions well.
Then we used sand paper to get rid of any rough edges. After this we had help from Mr Slane and his class who used the glue guns to stick our picture frames into the shape of a square. The glue gun meant the frame was strong and the glue dried very quickly.
We then added a card back and a photograph of ourselves to make our Mum's day extra special. We decided that a good finishing touch would be to add crepe paper around the edges. This was very tricky but we all perservered and did an excellent job.
Also we added a heart with a message to our Mums on the back. Finally we drilled a hole in the frame and added a piece o dowelling so our frames stood up.
Then it was time to take them home and find a place to hide them until Mothers day. The response from our Mums' was brill! We are very proud of what we managed to achieve and we are still only 5 and 6... future carpenters in the making!
