The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch

LHK2.JPG

In Year One we are using te story of The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch by Ronda and David Armitage to help us with our science, literacy and ICT.

We began by reading the story which everyone in class enjoyed. We shared our ideas on what should go in the role play area and decided on Mrs Grinling's kitchen, a boat to cross to the lighthouse and a comfy settee for Mr. Grinling in the lighthouse.

In the kitchen we can prepare healthy meals for each other. Whilst in the boat we can go fishing, (these fish have words on them we can practise reading). Finally in the lighthouse area we can use torches and stick puppets to retell the story, as well as using different filters to change the colours of the light.

In art and design we made our own telescopes and binoculars. As well as this we made collages of the food that Mrs. Grinling sent to her husband in the lighthouse and we have then attached this on a line just like Mrs Grinling.

We are having great fun in our new role play area. We even have a basket and Hamish the cat!
