Year 1 visit St. Andrews Church

All%20vicars.JPG

Father Alan met us at the church today. We were very excited and looking forward to learning lots about St. Andrews and what can be found in a church.

First Father Alan allowed us to walk around the church with our partners and talk about what we could see. Then we asked lots of questions like:

What were the blocks of wood on the wall?- 14 stations of the cross
What were candles around the church for? - some were lit for people who had prayed and others were for ceremonies.
We asked why the poppies were in a circle? - This was a wreath to remember the soldiers who had died for our country.

After question time and the chance to talk about the Bible and the stations of the cross, some of use were able to dress up in father Alan's clothes. Don't we look fantastic! We found out that father Alan wears a shirt and dog collar everyday, this is his uniform. On weddings and Christenings he wears a black cossack with a white tunic over the top. On Sundays he wears green, white for Christmas and Easter Sunday, red for Remberance day, and finally he wears purple for Good Friday and sad occassions.

We really enjoyed our visit and Father Alan says we are welcome any time. We look forward to seeing him again soon.

You can see our other photos in the gallery.
