Guided Reading

Why are we really enjoying reading in Year One?

In Year One we read in partners. We have great fun and are able to help each other with our words. How do we do it?

First we practise our speed sounds - this is all of the phonemes we have learnt. We need to try and recognise them on sight.

Then we build up our green words. These are words that can be sounded out. We do this by Fred talk.

Next we look at the red words. Red words are tricky words and cannot be sounded out and you just need to be able to know them.

Then we read the book. We take turns reading a page each, helping each other if we get stuck. We have special teaching sticks that we use to point to the words, it helps us not to lose our place.

Finally we practise our speed words. These are the words that could be found in the story. It's a race who can read them all the fastest!!!

We are getting so good at our reading everyone is impressed.
