Writing Labels and Captions

DSCF0169.JPG

In the first half term we promised photos of our label work. Well here they are!

In this photo we can see that the P.E. cupbaord has no label. Year 1 soon sorted that out.

We have been exploring how labels, captions and signs give us important information.

First we went for a walk around school and found lots of places with labels. Examples were Key Stage One doors - please keep doors closed, Mrs Jones room - Deputy Headteacher and our own classroom had lots of labels and signs giving important information.

Next we found four areas that did not have a label and we took photographs. Mrs Inkster made a power point presentation using the photographs and in guided writing we wrote captions telling people what the photograph was of and what it was used for. Finally, we worked in pairs and wrote our own captions independently. Mrs Inkster was extremely pleased with the results.

In the photo below we found that the fire alarm did not have a label but it was important we all knew what and where it was in case of an emergency.
