Olympics Here We Come!!!

Respect, excellence and friendship are the values followed by Olympic athletes. The Paralympic athletes have their own set of values which are courage, determination, inspiration and equality.

The London Olympics begin on Friday 27th July 2011.

To celebrate the coming of the most important sports event in the world, we will be doing lots of activities within the Creative Curriculum. Keep an eye on the Olympics section for details.

Year 6 ICT at the CLC.

Just before Christmas, Year 6 had an amazimg day out at the CLC at Heworth. We spent the morning creating our own tunes on Garage band. Next we had the fabulous opportunity of trying out I-pads. They were really cool!

After luch we learned all about spreadsheets, and recorded data for the Animal Olympics. Everybody had a great day, and we all learned a lot. We have a cd of our tunes if you would like to come into Year 6 to listen to them!

London 2011

Twenty five children from year 5 & 6 had a fantastic trip to London.
After setting off early from Newcastle Central Station on the Tuesday, we reached Kings Cross after three hours.
During the rest of the first day the children saw Buckingham Palace, Clarence House, The Mall and Trafalgar Square. We also went inside the National Art Gallery and the Aquarium.
After a nice meal at the hotel, we went on a night time walk where we saw Hyde Park and the outside of the Royal Albert Hall.

Budding Scientists at Work.

Year Six have started a new science topic all about materials and their properties. We have been planning, organising and carrying out investigations.

CIMG0138.JPG

We started by carefully observing what happens when we mix various materials with water. Mrs Pigott was really impressed with the detail and language used to describe any changes which took place.

Year 6 in space!

This term Year 6 are working on a 'Space' topic, which is largely science based. As part of our work we studied the work of space artist Donald E. Davis.

CIMG0042.JPG

We recreated some of his artworks using chalk pastels. We used blending and layering techniques to produce some high quality spacescapes. Why not pop into Year 6 to see some of our finished artwork on display?

French Day Friday October 7th!

DownloadedFile.jpeg
On Friday October 7th we will be celebrating French Day! Children are asked to come to school dressed in red, white and blue clothes! We will have a French breakfast from 8am in the KS2 hall and everyone is welcome! Parents are then invited to come and see the children who will then be performing the French songs that they have been learning in their classes, in a whole school assembly at 9:15. After that Nick the chef will be doing a cookery demonstration in the hall, where he will be making some traditional French dishes for the children and parents to sample!
